Textiles Minister addresses Bharat Tex Roadshow in Kolkata
-          Government has drawn roadmap to reach textiles market size of 350 billion USD of by 2030

22nd November, 2024; New Delhi/ Kolkata: The Bharat Tex Roadshow at Hotel Westin, Kolkata, on 20th November, 2024 marked a significant milestone in promoting Bharat Tex 2024. The event was graced by Shri Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles, Government of India. The roadshow, one of the largest in the series, attracted over 350 attendees from various segments of the textile industry.

In his address to the exporting community the Hon’ble Minister said, “This land of Kolkata is the mother of all textiles but unfortunately has been losing sheen of late. We have drawn a roadmap, after consulting the industry, to take the market size of textiles from 175 billion USD to 350 billion USD.” Bharat Tex matches the standards and scale of one of the largest global events, where the entire world comes to witness India’s strength in the entire textile value chain. Bharat Tex is a small step in the journey to the idea of an Atmanirbhar Bharat, which the government is actively promoting, the Minister added. 

Shri Singh also appealed to the attendees of the roadshow to participate in Bharat Tex 2025 in large numbers. Shri Singh also met the captains of the industry from the innerwear segment where representatives of major brands like Rupa, Kothari, Dollar, Kox, Amul, etc. were present in the meeting. He advised them to upscale their production and cater not only to the domestic market but foreign market too. He said he has asked the jute industry to develop a blend of jute and recycled cotton, which can be wearable and sustainable fibre. 

The textile industry led by Export Promotion Councils with the support of Ministry of Textiles, is hosting Bharat Tex 2025, a landmark event set to take place at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi during February 14-17, 2025 and India Expo Centre and Mart, Greater Noida during 12-15 February,2025.  The roadshow was held in Kolkata today to share the information about Bharat Tex and make the industry aware of the opportunities offered by the event.

Shri Pabitra Margherita, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Textiles, Government of India, Shri Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Shri Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman AEPC, Shri Anil Buchasia, Regional Sub-Committee Chairman, AEPC, Shri Mithileshwar Thakur, Secretary General AEPC and Shri Gopal Saraf, Chairman, JPDEPC, along with other dignitaries were present during the event.

Shri Margherita in his address praised the rich heritage of Bengal in textiles and encouraged exhibitors to participate in the show and motivate smaller and new players to make Bharat Tex 2025 a grand success.

Shri Rohit Kansal in his address said, “Bharat Tex 2025 is an attempt to make India a destination of choice where different components of the textiles value chain will showcase its prowess and synergy. Bharat Tex 2025 seeks to bring the world to India with a unified 5F focus covering the entire value chain. There will be special attention on showcasing sustainability and innovations. There will be a dedicated session on grand innovative challenges featuring startups besides testing spaces and product launches. This show will also encompass the global textiles dialogue having more than 60 knowledge sessions focusing on global mega trends, Industry 4.0, etc.  Besides, meetings with global and Indian industry leaders, policymakers and thought leaders will be curated on the sidelines of the show. There will be networking opportunities spread across 4 days with key global brands/retailers, domestic industry captains, buyers and suppliers, Shri Kansal informed.

Setting the context for the Bharat Tex 2025, Shri Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman AEPC stated that, “I am extremely grateful to Shri Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles, for his industry-friendly attitude and unwavering policy support in strengthening India’s textile sector. His visionary leadership continues to drive transformative initiatives that make events like Bharat Tex possible.”

Further, Chairman AEPC informed that, “We are having a double-digit growth including 35% growth in October. The previous edition of Bharat Tex, held in 2024, was a resounding success. The event fostered high-level discussions, knowledge exchange, and the launch of important initiatives.” Riding on this success we have increased the space this year and added other important elements such as machineries, chemicals and allied services, he added.

As we stride confidently towards Bharat Tex 2025, our journey has been marked by significant milestones. The Bharat Tex roundtables and roadshows have successfully taken place across the globe, including Madrid, New York, Melbourne, Istanbul, New Delhi, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Ludhiana etc. fostering dynamic discussions and setting the stage for transformative industry dialogues. On the international stage, we have engaged global audiences and are now eagerly preparing for an exciting roadshow in London, Shri Sekhri underlined.

Shri Anil Buchasia made a presentation on Bharat Tex 2025 and motivated the industry to make this show a grand success.
